Hello Friends,

We need you, Thursday, February 28, 6:30-8:30pm at Janney Elementary School.

After nearly four months we have a chance to weigh in on the proposals for the Tenley Library site. PresentationIt’s important that we speak up and consider our options and potential amenities (such as renovations to Janney, affordable housing, a mixed use project, etc).

Three proposals were submitted in response to the RFP. However, three weeks ago the City made a major amendment to the RFP. This change came as a surprise and may significantly impact the scope of the project.

The Deputy Mayor's office has yet to publicly clarify why this amendment was made and how it will affect the RFP. We need to know what community benefits can be gained and/or the opportunities lost from this project.

We hope you will come February 28th to see the proposals presented (both the original and revised editions). The Deputy Mayor's office owes us an explain of the changes in the process and needs to listen to what we want for our community.

If we fully leverage this project we can get more than just a library. A mixed use building could provide our neighborhood with a variety of benefits including:

  • New housing across from the Metro station will support more local amenities such as added retail choices.
  • Some or all of the housing at the site is proposed to be affordable to new teachers, service workers and others who have been priced out of our community.
  • Earlier renovations for Janney Elementary School.
