Pedestrian Safety

pedestrianThe city is preparing a Pedestrian Master Plan, which highlights recommendations for safety improvements to Upper Wisconsin Ave

We can enhance the walking experience with changes like:

  • curb extensions
  • raised medians
  • pedestrian signals
  • wider islands

These and other tools, which reduce the speed of traffic from 35mph to 25mph, reduce the risk of death and serious injury for pedestrians by a large margin.  Shortening the crossing distance for pedestrians also greatly reduces the risk of pedestrian crashes.

DDOT needs to act to create convenient and comfortable streets for all users.  Encourage the Mayor and DDOT to complete the Pedestrian Master Plan, and commit to fully funding and implementing the proposed safety improvements.

Urge the Mayor to give pedestrian safety the policy and funding priority it deserves throughout the city.
